Small charity requiring phone and broadband

We are a small preschool (a registered charity) operating out of a village hall. There is currently no phone line going to the building.

We need to install a phone line and then get a phone and broadband package.

Does anyone know if we have to register as a business or if we can register as a home user (cheaper!)?

Are we stuck with BT installing our phone line (all the options I have looked at for cheaper line rental/broadband seem to require a phone line already in place)?

Any thoughts on the best package/company for limited broadband use and only calls being made during the day (2-3 calls a day).

Thanks for your help.

You would not be able to have a home package installed in a commercial property which is what the village hall is classed as.

If the broadband and phone is only going to be used by the charity - it makes more sense to me for someone to have a mobile dongle and use their laptop and you can get headphones with microphone attached and use skype to make calls.

I agree with Horace: if the village hall needs a phone and broadband, then they should pay to install it. They can then decide how to charge out for its use.

If you install a fixed line, how do you prevent it being used by others?

I operated several out of school clubs and we only ever had a mobile. Mind you in those days mobile broadband was unheard of, so we didn't rise to a dongle. What are you using the BB for?

For limited use I have to agree with a PAYG mobile and PAYG dongle. BT will want £100 to install a commercial line (at least they did for me) but will waive it if you get tied into a lengthy package. Charges for random things just seem to keep on coming and billing is so complicated with them, so wish I'd gone down the PAYG mobile and dongle route...much easier to understand the charges, no fixed contract and far cheaper
