Tesco's bemoaning that profits are down

I heard this on the t.v. this morning and wondered how their profits can be down considering they seem to be putting their prices up almost daily

Could be all those till splits and booklets of vouchers that Tesco and Sainsburys send me.

They are also more expensive than they used to be. I only shop there for certain items and use the aforementioned vouchers.

    Hi Jackie,

As this isn't strictly and Old Style topic I've moved your thread over to the Food Shopping & Groceries board.

I for one certainly shop there a lot less than I used to, usually only for offers or when I get vouchers now. My shopping is a huge amount cheaper at Asda and even sometimes Waitrose works out cheaper.
  • My sister calls me a shopping tart,as i do not shop in one place anymore.I'm lucky to have the time to shop around.Once upon a time i would just shop in Mr Ts for convenience and spend around £80 a week ,now he's lucky if i spend £20.:D

I try to shop at local butchers and farm shops to keep local family run businesses open. Mr T only gets my business for offers etc.

Mr T relies on people who have taken their cards to keep shopping there in the hope that they collect massive points and get money/vouchers back.

I prefer Mr M's, Llidles, etc who have no loyalty cards and better prices.

I have a keyring Mr T's clubcard that is my daughter's one so that if I do shop there, she gets the points!

I'm in exactly the same position. I don't buy my petrol there any more, and I also shop at T's only for special offers. It's a little inconvenient to shop elsewhere but I have become sick and tired of Tesco's increasing domination in many areas, not just food. I'm on an anti-Tesco's trip!

Watching Sky news at my Dds tonight there were some ladies on there and I could have hugged them One lady said 'we don't buy the ready made stuff so much now I am cooking more from scratch and they also said that folk are only buying what they need Yippee people are coming to their senses at last and going back to how life used to be and not just shoving mass produced junk into their kids mouths so much .It take a recession to make folk realise that you can buy food a lot more reasonably than a box that you just 'ping' in the microwave Power to the People

I shop at Tesco as a last resort, although it's the second closest supermarket to where I live. I have all the others within reasonable distance to pick and choose from, depending on what I want. I think Tesco have become too big and too "everywhere", and I prefer to support healthy competition from other quarters.
