I have a Virgin V+ Box with the capability of about 50 hours recording.
I'd like to buy a DVD recorder purely for the purposes of back-up and additional storage. I don't need Free View or anything like that.
Any suggestions please?

Just buy a dvd recorder where you can input the signal from your V+ box and record to dvd but im guessing you will have to be on the channel to record, But for backup purpose i highly doubt thats possible the recordings in you V+ box are encrypted specially for V+. well thats the way with Sky+ so im guessing its the same with Virgin0

Actually its not...I had a dvd recorder (LG) a while ago had a faulty V+ box managed to dump progs from box to DVD pretty simply in prep for the new v+ arrival
I did think the data would be encrypted but it's not...does take some time though if the prog you saved is 2hrs it takes 2hrs to transfer to dvdWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
Any DVD recorder will do. However, you'll be recording the programmes from the V box to the DVD recorder in real time, since they'll be connected by SCART or other leads, and it'll be a case of Press Record on the DVD recorder, Press Play on V box, and come back when programme ends.
Depending on budget, you could consider a DVD/HDD combo - I prefer Panasonic - you could dump all of the V box onto the HDD in one go, then use the editing features of the recorder to trim adverts, top and tail the programmes, and compile them neatly with programme names, disc names etc onto DVD. The transfer to DVD could then be done at high speed rather than real time.0 -
Actually Virgin do suggest, in their V+ Box instructions, the option of backing up content to a DVD as an alternative to purchasing additional space. (Actually, 80 hours is available to subscribers).0

I am also interested in doing this. Does anyone know if it's possible to back up to a hard drive rather than a dvd recorder? I would be backing up from V+ box to a WD Live hub. Thanks (sorry for hijacking) x0
