Mcdonalds is bad. Take your own packed lunch.

I always allow eateries to play to their strengths - don't ask for chips when at a Chinese, and don't ask for anything fancier than egg and chips at a roadside eatery. Pies are usually pretty competently cooked in pubs, but boy am I picky where I'll trust seafood from fruits de mer only from seafood specialists, etc. Consider that lesson learned.0

We were out for the day a couple of weeks ago, and stopped at Little Chef on the way home, due to a dire need for a toilet, and a cuppa (in that order!).
We stopped at the Bere Regis Little Chef on the A31. The toilets are inside the front door, with another door through to the restaurant (I use the word lightly). I went straight to the toilet, telling my husband just to order me tea and a toasted teacake.
When I went into the restaurant, my husband was the only person sitting there. It was the dingiest place I think I've ever been to. However, we were served relatively quickly (probably due to us being the only customers) - even though we had expected two pots of tea and two teacakes, we only got two cups of tea.
They were ok, I guess. But I nearly had a hissy fit when the bill came to £9.50!
I used their contact form on the website to air my views on the outrageous prices of the item (which wasn't even as advertised on their menu, as we only got cups of tea, not pots), and received a reply that I can only assume had been written by someone on job experience. Apparently "everyone at Head Office would like to apologise to you". I am still contemplating heading to their head office and getting them to form an orderly queue to do so!
Anyway, I had posted about the cost on another forum and received several replies agreeing with me, and giving various similar views, to mine. I responded to their email and included these responses. I haven't heard back, unsurprisingly, but it's no skin off my nose if they don't take heed, as I will never to into another Little Chef again. I will invest in a she-wee instead
I don't think I know of anyone who has had a positive experience in one. Despite Heston Bloomin'eck's best efforts, I can't see them recovering any reputation they may have one time had.0 -
One of the great things about a sat nav is when you are in a strange town............
You can search for the nearest McDonalds, Harvester, Wetherspoons etc and at each of these you will get a nicer cheaper meal than Little Chef 99 times out a 100.
In Saltash you will find none of these, lol.
I work across the road from this place and sometimes pop into the ajoining Burger King for a worktime treat as that's the only fast food around! (Although the burger van (KLM) on the other side of the roundabout is open from 5 and does amazing bacon rolls if you ever return!)

Little Chef would be my last choice TBH.
Expensive for what it is AND can be quite slow.
I agree, with the popularity of smart phones and websites such as http://www.5minutesaway.co.uk/ it would be my choice only if every where else was shut.0 -
UPDATE - I've received a letter this morning apologising for the terrible food and staff attitude. They have said that the area manager will be working with the manager to sort out the problems at Saltash. They enclosed a £10 voucher for Little Chef as an apology. The letter came across quite well seemed genuine so here's hoping they do! Anyone want a £10 voucher for Little Chef lol!! Luckily it's not for Saltash!!

I recall staying in a Travelodge Straftford way a few years ago and OH asked the receptionist where she recommended to eat as it was late, the reply came "There is a little thief over there, but I'd go to McDonalds if I were you".
From that day forth Little Chef has always been known as The Little Thief in our house, and it was a scarily accurate description lol.0 -
I once went in a Little Chuffer, in Dorset or Devon or somewhere on the left. They had the oldest transvestite in the world serving in there. Honestly, he (she) was about 80, dodgy blond wig, really strange Edwardian style black full-length frock, hands like shovels and a voice to match. Most odd."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Good site, thanks.0
