    You'll have to make an image and then check the hashes.... of both of the discs.
    Unless you have modified the disc yourself, I'm sure that you don't want to be installing 'doctored' software.
    So you really should check what you are installing.

    actually this is exactly why bouncing ideas around on here is so good - it can spark a train of thought which gets you to the answer you're looking for :) The modified disk statement above did it. I now DO know what I have been installing, and am perfectly happy with it. I should have realised sooner why I was having the issues I was, however now I do and everything's cool again...
