I put a set of the Avon Storm Ultras on my 1200RT and they have worked very well in all conditions. I would have no qualms in using them again, but a set of Continental Contimotions are lined up, as in true MSE style, at £125 for the pair including delivery, it was too good an offer to turn down."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

don't get me wrong, not a bad tyre but compared to the 2CT's that came off, terrible in the wet. I have the rear wheel twitch when shiftign down, something that never happened with the Michelins, however, as I said, they are much better in the wet.
That said, different bikes will react differently to the same tyres so I can only reference the Blackbird. I am currently in the process of wearing away the STORM logo around the edge of the tyre. No chickenstrips here thanks!

True, one tyre will not suit every bike. It's a case of finding what works for you. Hence why I still use Metzeler Tourances on my 1200GS. I have tried others but they don't work as well as the Tourances, so until someone comes along with a new tyre I will continue to use them."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

Clearly I said wet twice above and I meant dry hah.
Agree re certain tyres being the business. Bridgestone were definately the best by far on the ZX6R I had but haven't cut the mustard elsewhere.
Dad has just put the 3CT on his Tiger so I'm waiting for the use report on those before putting the next set of boots on.

Who changes their own tyres? I didn't realise how easy it was until I just gave it a go, now have the proper equipment too (although a lot can be home made or improvised - but I like to do all work myself and have a tools fetish/obsession) and a couple more changes and I will have paid for it in what I haven't paid to a garage - also very quick once you get the hang of it.0

Harley Sportster 883. Love that bike!0

Me - FZS 400 - love her to bits, good for weekend scratching but commute on her all year round
DD (18yo) - YBR125 - commutes to college all year round, excpet when the white stuff is around when I have to confiscate her keys, hopefully going onto bigger restricted bike very shortly.
DH - ex VFR800, currently looking for a new bike for weekend scatching with me and DD. Wanting a Hornet/bandit but can't seem to find cheapish ones up north:mad:Light travels faster than sound - that's why you can see someone who looks bright until they open their mouth.0 -

I do and have been doing it for the last 2-3 years. With 5 bikes between the wife and I it makes sense. Each tyre change gets easier and easier with more experience."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

I don't change my own tyres. If I take the wheels off the bike and take them down to my local dealer only charges £10 to swap the hoops. Not worth the bother of doing it myself.
Having just had the 12,000 mile service done on my bike. At what point is it no longer worth having a dealer-stamped service history? I could save a hundred quid or so a year by doing it myself, but if it means that when it comes to selling it or trading it in I get offered less as it hasn't got a service history, it's not worth it.0 -
What does your dealer charge for the 12k service if by doing it yourself you will save £100? On my bike I would save a lot more than that every 6k. If you keep your own records of running costs it will help when selling the bike privately. I sold a BMW R1150GS a few years ago which had 40000 miles on the clock and the last BMW service was at 12000 miles. I serviced it myself after that but kept records. The guy who brought it was happy with this and the bike was also in very good condition for its age and mileage. The price was realistic and I saved far more in servicing than what I would have been able to add to the price if the bike had a full BMW service history.
You are fortunate to have a dealer who only charges £10 to change a loose wheel. Most dealers round my way are charging £15-20 per wheel."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"
