Advantage for fleas. Cats & dogs

Received an e-mail from Nutrecare today as a prescription is no longer required for Advantage. I'm sorry I can't comment on how effective this is as I use Advocate but thought it might help some peeps who are have fleas probs.

Are these (Advantage and Advocate) not the same?

    I am so confused!

No they aren't. Advantage kills fleas, whereas advocate kills fleas, worms and ear mites as far as I know. Advantage is very good. I literally only used Advocate on my cat for the first time last week and it seems to work :-) hth x

I thought the same but I believe there's "Advantage Multi" which is the American equivilant to Advocate, and plain "Advantage" (the one being sold here). Regular Advantage contains one of the active ingredients of Advocate but not the other - presumably it's similar to the OTC version of Frontline and the POM Frontline Plus, the latter being more effective.

Sorry for the confusion - I use Advocate which is prescription only. It treats fleas but also worms, ear mites & gastrointestinal nematodes.
I don't know much about Advantage but I thought that as it is now prescription free it may be more effective than Frontline or for those who are finding prescriptive treatments too costly.

Thanks for the clarification everyone. I find frontline not effective anymore so am looking for something else.

I found the same thing happened for two of my cats. I think the theory is fleas are becoming immune to it. Advantage is good stuff though. I'd recommend getting it from a reputable seller on ebay in bulk if you want to save a bit :-)
