Im posting this query on behalf of a work collegue.
Her car has broken down. She is using another friends car in the meantime whilst hers is repaired. She has checked her insurance and she is insured to drive it 3rd party. She got stopped this morning by the police and discovered that the vehicle that she has been driving does not have a current MOT certificate. The policeman has asked her to produce her documents at the police station within 7 days. What is likely to happen to her? Was her insurance invalidated? Will the police persue the owner of the vehicle for allowing their vehicle to be used without a current MOT certificate?

The Insurance will not be invalidated by a lack of an MOT0

Is she going to get fined? Points on her licence? And what about the person who the car belongs to? Is there any comeback on them?0

Go and get the car MOTeed, take all the correct documents to the police station within the 7 days, they will often not pursue just a lack of mot especially if you have since had it done.
If they do pursue the lack of MOT, it's just a relatively small fine with no points and does not need to be declared to Insurers.0 -
Ive just heard that the MOT cert expired at end of August. My friend is trying to get in contact with her friend so they can get their car mot.0
