so Tosh power jacks generally are particularly prone to dry joints hammy ?? Only ever seen a couple and on both the sockets were shot.....

edit - for clarity, I mean I've only seen a couple with charging issues, and in both cases etc. etc. :)

The sockets usually end up shot because the owners persist with trying to continue to use it and the heat from the arcing over a prolonged period melts the plastic. Caught early enough the damage hasn't been done.

Dry joints are the price you now pay for lead free solder. So much for it saving the environment - I'm quite sure that the residents of Guiyu in China who see 100 truckloads of waste electronics dumped in their locality every day, most of the faults being directly due to lead free solder, are very happy about the environmental benefits....

Of course, the !!!! that is lead-free solder... my working environment is exempt from the stuff, so I keep forgetting about it (and always use leaded if I need to solder anything ;) )

Fortunately being a Ham I attend lots of radio rallys and there's always someone selling half rolls of good old lead solder so I've stocked up. There is probably enough for my kids and their kids too...:D:D
