Liquid eyeliner at fifty

Can someone put my mind at ease. Is it too much to wear liquid eyeliner at fifty, is it too harsh?

Doesn't this depend on the quality of your skin? If the skin around your eyes is good, then why not? If however you have lots of lines and wrinkles around your eyes, maybe it won't look so good - or not a really dark colour anyway.
I didn't think that there was a given age limit to stop using certain cosmetics...?... Or is there a time limit that no-one has told me about yet?0 -
I'm nearly 47 and I still wear it - it hides the wrinkles! LOL0

I'm 46 and still wear it. If you want to soften the look a little try a very narrow line of dark eyeshadow along the lash line before applying the eyeliner.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

As long as you do not look like this then you will be ok,0

I think that as one ages, it might look softer to tone down the shade. ie. instead of black, use brown or a shade of grey. I'm 55 & use brown."Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”0

It always confuses me when people say 'you must not do x y and z at a certain age' - do you wake up in the morning and are suddenly unable to pull off certain styles and products? I would say it depends on your skin, your colouring and your style much more then whether you've turned a certain age.0

I very much agree with this!

I've always found liquid eyeliner difficult to apply and Black looks particular harsh. As you get older eye pencils drag the skin.
Have you tried Gel Eye Liner? I wear this all the time and it's great. As well as Brown you may like to consider Dark Violet. Estee Lauder's is really nice and I was very surprised with how well the brush applied the gel that is also provided. Pricey but worth the money.
I was going to recommend EL Stay Violet but it's not available online anymore. Might be worth going to your EL counter, give it a go and see if you like it. They will let you try it out for nothing. During the day I tend to just apply it to my upper eye lash. A good tip is also to apply it on the base of your lashes too, otherwise I find you can sometimes have a little white line between your lid and lashes.0 -
Thanks for your replies. I must agree that there are too many rules about what you should and shouldn't wear past a certain age and I am usually one to just do what suits me but lately I have been feeling a bit sensitive about my age I don't know why.
I do find that liquid eyeliner just stays put until I remove it and I never end up with panda eyes like I often do with pencil. I have used gel/cream liner in the past, it was the Clinque one, but I found it fiddly putting it on with a separate brush somehow.
Those of you who wear liquid, how do you wear it and do you prefer it to pencil?0 -
I don't use a pencil on my upper eyelid as it drags the skin too much and always smudges. I like liquid liners but prefer to use a gel eg Smashbox or Bobbi Brown which goes on really smoothly and dries quickly. You can smudge it for a softer look but I don't tend to - as I'm blonde, I like to create the illusion of thick lashes.0
