    Thanks for the replies, just wondering how much worse the grip is under braking in the dry especially when towing a heavy trailer.
    Also forgotmyname, how much quickly do they wear out compared to the premium continental or michelin road tyres previously fitted.
    I'm not bothered by extra road noise, that's what the stereo's for. Less mpg, I'm lucky to get 19 so a little less isn't an issue.

    I wouldn't worry too much about the braking distance. You will just need to adapt your driving to take it into account.

    Don't be tempted to go for 'mud' tyres, they are too specialised. A decent all terrain will be the best compromise for a car used mostly on the road. Grabber AT2's and Toyo Open Country AT's were on my shortlist. Unfortunately, they don't make the Toyo's in the size I needed.
