hi all, just an hour ago avast intercepted this virus for me (please don't click on the link, i have wildcarded the http bit!). trouble is avast keeps periodically saying 'a virus has been intercepted, please don't worry the virus was intercepted before it could be downloaded etc.' it then gives me the option to 'abort' because it is saying no virus was downloaded. i have looked in the virus chest and nothing is there. i do believe avast - it probably has intercepted this piece of malware (it says it is a 'malware' [win32 fakealert]) but it keeps prompting me with the above message. thanks all.
ps. i have ccleaner to clean out my cache etc and cookies also. i have also restared the laptop three times. nothing untowards has happened to my files etc. as i write this the message has appeared three times! it seems to crop up when i am connected to the internet. i have checked also my lan settings etc and the virus has NOT altered them.

You can always do a virus scan in safe mode with system restore turned off .Make sure that whatever program you use to scan with it is updated.Once you turned off system restore all your restore points are gone as well. When you boot back up you then switch it back on.
Or you could just try a system restore0 -
Try downloading and running AVG ANTISPYWARE from http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5Every day when I wake up I thank the Lord I'm WELSH. .0

Have you tried running your av while in safe mode. See if it can catch the !!!!!! while you arent connected to the net and minimal programs are loaded?

Does the utility also clear out you temporary internet files?
If you are unsure; from the browser click tools then internet options - on the first page of the dialog box half way down is 'temporary internet files' click the delete files option & see if it solves your problem.0 -
CCleaner is the dogs danglies!!!
The C stands for cr&p and it cleans it very well!!
As a freebie this gets loaded onto any pc I come into contact with.
Windows is pants at managing tempory files and Ccleaner does an excellent job of cleaning up. It will also tidy up the regsitry and allow easy modification of startup programmes, thus saving a lot of time faffing about in individual programmes trying to stop them running on start up when they are not needed.
