Ideas for night away south west area

Hi
I am looking for somewhere nice to take OH for a night away, we live in South west area and don't want to travel too far for only 1 night.
Been trawling the net for theatre ideas but nothings jumping up at me.
Would like to go somewhere where we can do something, see a play or visit somewhere ideally, rather than just a night away.
Can anyone recommend anywhere? Even somewhere with a nice beach / cove type thing would be great.
Thanks

What sort of things are you interested in? There are lots of lovely National Trust houses in Devon and Cornwall. The Eden Project is a good day out too. There's a theatre in Plymouth so you could maybe combine something like that in the daytime with a show in the evening?
St Ives is also a lovely place to stay, if you're prepared to travel that far down (not sure where exactly in the South West you are)
Or, if you're in the north of that area, how about the Cotswolds? You can do anything, make anything, dream anything. If you change the world, the world will change.0 -

Can you be more specific than just "South West"? I live in Bristol which to some is classed as South West but it's still 3 hours drive from Cornwall.0 -
Sorry, should have said I'm from the Wiltshire area.0

Truro can be a good night - there's usually something on at the Hall for Cornwall and there are plenty of good restaurants and bars in town and a night at Mannings Hotel is divine (no good for disabled though unfortunately - lots of stairs, no lift). Quite a way from Wiltshire though I'm afraid!0

Exeter is lovely; we usually stay at The Olive Tree, which is in the city centre. The centre itself is lovely and there are some great theatre opportunities in the city too. In addition, Exmouth, Teignmouth and Topsham are not far away by train if you prefer the beach or a smaller village.0

I second Exeter. We stayed there recently too in the Mecure hotel just round the corner from the cathedral.
Have you posted on the travel boards? When I was looking for ideas on where to go for a weekend away they were really lovely and helpful and came up with lots of ideas.

Tiffins Bistro in Fowey, Cornwall. It will blow you away. Very unassuming place to look at but in my opinion knocks spots off Steins place in Padstow and is about 1/3 of the price.
Fowey is a lovely place to visit for a meander through narrow streets lined with gorgeous shops and houses and is right on the water.0 -
Bath! Loads of theatres, restaurants, clubs, good shopping. The Komedia is a good place for art films/stand up comedy etc., and you can book to see a show and eat in the auditorium, very good food, too. Loch Fyne if you like fish, Demuths if you're veggie. Loads of places to stay and a mainline trainlink. Something for everyone, I'd say.0

I'll second Bath, loads to do there. Loch Fyne has their own hotel. £84 per night B&B for 2. Or there are travellodge rooms available.
We went there today and were going to go to Loch Fyne for tea but it was too busy. So we tried Jamies italian and it was too busy too. So we came home and went to the pub round the corner and I had a pint of bitter
