I've been driving 30+ years, in some of the worst snow we've had, and reguarly used to drive delivery trucks in winter, and through the peak district in derbyshire in the early hours of the mornings, and I wouldn't go back to using sumer tyres again.
    They're unbelievably different.

Technology moves on, even if I had the best driving ability in the world, I don't turn off the ABS, the rear screen demisters, the esp, the airbags, and go back to the same car I had in the eighties.

Don't think the canadians would be saying to do that road in a C3 on summer tyres somehow.
And if you get decent winter tyres, you won't need to spend the 20 minutes rocking the car forwards and backwards, turning the wheel from side to side every time you need to pull off on a slope.

No, the photos were just a light hearted bit of distraction, and no Canadians wouldn't even know what a C3 was.

My point still is, that driving ability is important. It's like when we see the first bit of snow every drive is do the exact wrong thing and dabbing their brakes hard.

Ah, but at least the car in the '80s was probably rear wheel drive and you could have some fun in it.

    Depends where you drive.

We're still a temperate country and the majority of winters are still fairly mild. Unless you live in the hills, I would have thought some tyre socks in the boot would be sufficient.
  • Does it sound sensible to mix and match all season and winter tyres? MrTyres has suggested 2 new winter tyres for the front and keep the ok all season tyres on the back. Come April then switch them over so the winter tyres are at the back.

    Thanks.
I'm sure I went upstairs for some reason.

Indeed you could, I had a Hillman Hunter, and splashed out on some Avon mud and snow tyres, which I still remember to this day made an amazing difference going over the cat and fiddle pass in winter.
Even when it was officially closed.
Next was a rwd kit car, on BF Goodrichs, which went anywhere.

I don't know if they would be effective in summer.
I would be happy driving with two winter tyres on the front in winter, but don't know about round swopping in summer.
I suppose it makes some sense though.
