Beware Car Insurance Renewal Ploy

I was insured last year with Admiral and decided to switch this year when they hiked my premium without reason.

A week later I received a letter from Admiral implying that my bank had not paid the renewal and that I should make immediate payment.

Finally I received an aggressive call (after checking whether I was happy with my non-existent renewal) saying that I had to pay a cancellation charge, even though the policy naturally lapsed and there is no cancellation.

I don't know how many others may get targeted by Admiral/Elephant as they are under pressure with the changing law on referral fees and looking for other ways to dupe people into paying them money!

Thanks for the warning, athough I think you'll find the 28 million other threads about Continuous Payment Authority have beaten you to it.

Look back to the policy documentation when you first took your cover with Admiral. See if there's anything on 'automatic renewal.'

You know when you buy an apple pie from McDonalds and it says 'caution, filling is hot' and the filling IS hot. It's the same with insurance where the terms and conditions say that it'll automatically renew; because it really does automatically renew.

Although with Admiral, if you speak to them nicely and can provide proof that you were covered by another insurer from renewal time; they'll refund you what you've paid.

Or look at your renewal letter that tells you what to do if you want to or do not want to renew.

Strange thing is that they send these letters to you to read. Yet so many people don't understand that concept.
