BUYITPLAYIT.ORG & BUYITPLAYIT.EU-Scam

I'm posting this on here both as a warning and in the hope that it appears high enough in search engine listings to warn people off these fraudulent websites.

They are selling consumer goods at unfeasibly low prices and using very untrustworthy payment methods including evouchers and bank transfer. The three contact addresses all appear to be either virtual offices or mailboxes.

Further details on this thread:

https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3493033

Buyitplayit are now ratchetting up the scam by demanding that purchasers provide copies of their passport, bank statements and utility bills.

Quote:

In order for us to protect our customers and co-workers and for security reasons we need to verify your identity for this order, please provide us with:

1) - TWO different non-expired, unaltered and clear copies from your Passport, Country ID Card, Driver's License...
2) - Any TWO copies of a recent proof of residence (bank statement, water bill, electricity bill, gas bill...) matching the address as registered in your profile
3) - A picture with you and your Passport or Country ID Card opened in your hands. Make sure that the photo will be high-resolution and clear, the picture must be taken close enough to show your face and data from the passport clearly.

Note: - The scanned documents must be in pdf or jpg color format.
Click her to verify (link)

Please send the documents as soon as possible so that your package can be delivered on the determined date. Future orders from you will not require additional verifications. We apologize for the possible inconveniences and we thank you for your understanding.

Best regards, Buyitplayit

So as well as stealing money they are now indulging in identity fraud.

AVOID these crooks.

Unfortunateky I am one of the people who have been the victim of their scam.
I could kick myself as I am always so cautious when making a purchase off the net.
The item I wanted was not that much cheaper than I could get it for elsewhere, so it never occurred to me that it was a scam. Apart from the strange method of payment, UKash. Although the shop where I purchased my UKASH voucher said it was a regular form of payment they used. I too recieved an email, one day prior to my given delivery date, asking for the same documents posted above. At this point it clicked that I had been had. Under no circunstances was I sending those documents.
I am now going to contact consumer direct and ask for advice, and to see wether it's worth getting the police involved. I don't hold out much hope though.
If anybody has gone down this route already, could you please post your outcome and or what to do about it.
    Thanks.

These fraudsters were highlighted on the CLick technology program on BBC News 24 yesterday. Seems they've conned folks all over Europe!

Buy It Direct are a totally legitimate and trustworthy company. They have no connections of any description with these fraudsters. All the scammers have done is to insert a redirect into their links.

They've made their money now so they've cut and run before the notoriously slow international law organisations have cottoned on. Unfortunately lots of gullible souls have sent them copies of passports, bank statements, driving licenses etc. so the scum will now be busy setting up bank and credit card accounts in other people's names.

If you want to better protect yourself against pondlife like this in the future then either ask on MSE first or get the (free) browser add-on Web Of Trust. This gives a colour coded rating to all web sites. Green sites are generally good and they're the ones you should use.

...and what if Web of Trust gets it wrong?

Relying on a third party (particularly a "user-driven" one such as Web of Trust) can be a dangerous past-time.

Better to look for genuine, back-linked sites such as Verisign (I must stress, if you're suspicious visit verisign and verify independently, don't just trust the fact that the symbol's there)
I am an IFA, but nothing I say on this forum constitutes financial advice. Always draw your own conclusions and always do your own research.
  • I have to join that club buyitplayit.conned,£200,usually I am very good at spotting the scam, but was in a rush to buy a camera for my son,uni work, always last minute, thought I was sorted till they asked for pictures of my passport and close up of my face holding it,just for security reasons, yeah,,what a sucker, stick with the old saying if its to good to be true bla bla bla.
  • The eurid.eu website shows the following information as the domain registrant

    Charlotte Mercier

    50 Rue Clovis Hugues
    93270 Saint-Denis
    Seine-Saint-Denis
    France
    +33.1148123345

The emails sent by these scumbags in correspondance ends europe.com and the whois info for that domain is private, when you go to buyitplayit now through the emails now the website is buyitplayit.info surely there must be a way to track these people through the trail they leave behind?

Actionfraud.org have been more than useless... I have a crime number (great) should I still report it to the police?

    So frustrating...

I'm sure WOT does get it wrong occasionally but tell me this: how many of the people who have been scammed by these websites will know the foggiest what you're talking about never mind follow your suggestion?

The fact is loads of people have internet access these days. Unfortunately many of those people are far too trusting for their own good and get caught out. Also a fair segment of the population aren't really computer literate so telling them to verify Verisign will just baffle them.

The trouble is on all four sites that they've used (so far) the Domain Registration address details have been hidden behind a privacy service.

The address you've found is for a garage in a suburb of Paris.

    http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.allogarage.fr/garages/details-garage-GARAGE-GILLES-BERA-RELAIS-24651.html&ei=F4CTTq-lIILD8QONuLCeBw&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=1&sqi=2&ved=0CCEQ7gEwAA&prev=/search%3Fq%3DGARAGE%2BGILLES%2BBERA%2B-%2BRELAIS%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26channel%3Ds%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D640%26prmd%3Dimvnso

Charlotte Mercier appears to be a fairly common French name so it was probably chosen at random.

    http://www.google.co.uk/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-GB%3Aofficial&channel=s&hl=en&source=hp&biw=1280&bih=640&q=verisign&btnG=Google+Search#sclient=psy-ab&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB%3Aofficial&channel=s&source=hp&q=Charlotte+Mercier&pbx=1&oq=Charlotte+Mercier&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=s&gs_upl=271142l271142l6l272540l1l1l0l0l0l0l0l0ll0l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=ce65c273d1288c46&biw=1280&bih=640

I think, in all honesty you've lost your money. I just hope you haven't fallen for the copies of documents trick for identity theft purposes because that will really hurt people.

I found some interesting information on Scoobynet.com.

    Quote:

    'buyitplayit.org, buyitplayit.eu & productsbiz.biz are all associated.

    buyitplayit.org & buyitplayit.eu are registered in America
productsbiz.biz is registered in the UK

    They all resolve to 173.236.125.155

The website is hosted in America by T-Mobile

The billing address used for the hosting and domain names is in Poland.'

See post no.20 on this thread: http://bbs.scoobynet.com/non-scooby-related-4/906358-buyitplayit-org.html

Productsbiz.biz should actually be Productsbase.biz. which is currently being used on buyitplayit.info. Here is the Domain Registration complete with a Polish address:

    http://whois.domaintools.com/productsbase.biz

It might be another fake address though bearing in mind that 9 Sosnowa is a holiday chalet.
