I have had a sales call (I think from outside the UK) offering free flights for up to eight people, 8 minibreaks in the US and various other discounts if I pay£298 + VAT to join Skye Travel Club.
They said I could make the decision when they called me back within a week but then asked for my credit card details in order to "check that i had not had any bancruptcy filed against me". I refused to give them my details, pointing out that they had my name and address and that was all they needed for a credit check. The guy got very stroppy and argumentative but eventually agreed to send me the welcome letter with all the details of the offer, by email.
This has arrived and mentions their wesite www.skyetravelworld.com . On checking this it seems that most of the discounts are available when you pay an extra fee for a "Travel Agents Card". However the only means of contacting them, to find out what this fee is, is a telephone number which will not connect.
Is this a Scam to get people's credit card details? Has anyone else had any experience of this?
I'd appreciate any information in case it is a genuine way to save money on airfares as we travel a lot.
Thanks
