Standalone DVD player with USB - any experiences?

Hi All,
I'm after a DVD player with USB. Can anyone lend some info or experience on recommended machines, and especially how well the USB works? The DVD player will be connected to a surround sound system and I want to connect an external harddrive (not just a flashdrive) to the DVD player so that I can play mostly MP3s (& some ripped DVDs) in glorious surround sound.
What are the DVD menus like for navigating the harddisk? And do any machines have the USB port on the back of them? So many questions, but some general experiences would be MUCH appreciated!

I believe that Lidl were selling one before Christmas for £35. Would have liked one myself, but were all gone by the time I got home from work. The USB input would be the clincher for me too.0
