Picasa - any drawbacks? or alternatives?

Thanks cwoodham (and A_Clock) for advice and comments. Just to update the story, I have downloaded Faststone and I reckon it is excellent. Clear, well-organised, user-friendly. Gives a wide range of options for organising and editing, but without being confusing. And it always "asks" - or checks - before doing anything, so there is minimal risk of losing/deleting pictures. Only criticism I have so far is the lazy user's comment that it doesn't offer a "quick-fix" option - you have to adjust each setting - contrast, brightness, etc - as specific edits. But overall, it is a great program.
