DVD RAM to DVD-R?

A friend of mine has recently bought a DVD Ram recorder for his TV but would like to be able to use his PC to copy directly from DVD Ram to DVD-R and then be able to play the DVD-R on a pc or another dvd player/tv.

Does anyone know of any software that can do this

Additional info...... (added via edit)
On his PC he has LG GSA-E10N DVD rewriter, which can read/write to all five DVD formats and a Sony DVD rewriter that can read/write DVD±R, DVD±RW and he is looking at a one pass process and not saving to PC's hard drive first. If possible.
Looking to raise some money ;)

    Hi,

not sure as there is a piece of crucial info missing from your post but potentially
    software alone won't do this.

There are 3 dvd recording formats, dvd-ram is considered the poor relation to the main contenders although it was actually the first dvd recordable format that was available to the public.

His dvd-recorder is DVD-RAM. This is a completely seperate format from either DVD + or -.

His only options really are either take back the dvd recorder and get one that supports his chosen formats, or hook up his dvd recorder to his pc via video in and record on his pc then out onto whatever flavour his dvd writer supports.

However, if his pc has a dvdwriter that supports dvd-ram and either or both + and - then he just needs to find what format the dvdrecorder records it's data (usually mpeg2) and use a video editing prog such as Nero.

*edit* after extra info supplied by OP

    Right then, that's better!

Typically it will take about 2 hours to convert an average length movie into dvd format using something like Nero Vision[1] (part of the Nero[2] product suite, latest version 7.5.9.0A).

It's not just a matter of dragging data onto the disc :(

It sounds like your friend wants to burn on the fly - not really recommended as dvd authoring is very processor intensive and you could find more coasters than playable dvds coming out.

My preferred method would be to put the dvd-ram disc in the LG, use nero vision to take the source from the Lg and burn to a disc image (either .nrg or .iso), then once you're happy with the image (Nero or most other dvd burning apps will allow you to play the image), then burn onto dvd.
You'll need to have approx 10gb of free disk space (temporarily, but with hard disks being so cheap currently, I would seriously look at the possiblility of whacking in another hard disk and using that as the dvd authoring drive) for the conversion and image file.

The tools are available to make it a simple job, but it does take time.

Yesterday, it took 3hrs 40 minutes to convert two xvid movies (1 x 1.36gb and 1 x 700mb) into a dvd image and burn, thus giving 2 movies on one disc.
Nero can also do menus and pretty bits like that if they floats your boat, but this uses space that I'd rather keep for the film itself, especially when using raw movie video.

ps. If you do go Nero, don't install Photosnap, it's crap, use Picasa which is free. And don't install InCD, it's awful and nobody really needs it!!!

I have now found some great software to do this. I am currently using it on a two week trial.

    The software is called

    Here's the link for it

I managed to convert the DVD Ram VRO file to an Mpeg file in approx 15 minutes. It look good so far but I am still testing.

I then used nero to burn the mpeg to a dvd. Nice!

    Hope this helps ;)

Not sure where you got that from but before buying my Panasonic recorder I read quite a few techie reviews saying that ram was the dogs whatsits as it has many more features that will never be available on + or - formats.

I have a burner on my PC as well and have Ram ,+R , +RW , - R and -RW discs here but only ever use ram discs on the panasonic due to the extra features like time slip , pause live recordings, chasing playback , watch one recording while recording another and far superior editing features.
TV programmes can be edited and erased and you can even create your own favourite playlists from all the recordings on the disc. As well as deleting whole programs when you are finished with them, you can also delete parts of the recordings that you don?t want, such as commercial breaks or unwanted commentaries. This is the versatility of DVD-RAM. Simply, using DVD-RAM is like using a small hard-drive

    I agree with you Wayne.
I think that DVD-RAM is the better technology too.

But Shawz is gonna have to fork out fifty bucks for that VideoReDo package in a fortnight.

How do you transfer your stuff from DVD-RAM to DVD-R?

Do you use some other software or what?
    ;);)

rename the .vro file on teh DVD-RAM to .mpeg

then use something free like DVD-Styler to import and then just burn it to DVD-R
