Credit card ppi claim

Can anyone advise? I made a claim to HSBC for mis sold PPI on a credit card which I cancelled in 2006. I received a letter yesterday saying that they were upholding my compaint but would only refund one years premiums as they dont hold any information beyond 6 years but if I can provide the information they will consider it. I dont have any further information. Is this correct that banks dont hold any information beyond 6 years?

    Hi

    Well done on your success!

That is correct, they are only obligated to keep details for the last 6 years.
Saying that though, I was told the same on one of mine, and I decided to request for Subject Access Request (SAR), I even received details going back to the late 90's.

I assume they will have a separate data dept anyway, you could try contacting them, find out the tel number of that dept and ask if they still hold details pre the last 6 years.
Or request for a SAR which is totally optional, there is a full sar letter template below link, for this you enclose £10 cheque or postal order and they have 40 calendar days to comply.

I would try finding out the number of the data dept first though and give them a call, they may just let you know there and then if they hold anything from earlier years, good luck.
