Micro Assist - scam ?

  • Just a warning - be careful when dealing with these phone calls. I knew about this scam so thought I'd have a bit of fun and after asking a few stupid questions told him I didn't actually have a computer. His manner changed and he proceeded to tell me what he would like me to do him (in sexually explicit terms) and was still going on when I put the phone down!!! (I am female by the way!)QUOTE]

You should have said you now know what his second job was, a torrid chatline "host". You may have been unnerved by this but you tipped him off ballance and it was him that completly lost it. You are one more person that has sent a message to these criminals that they are rummbled and wasting their time. The more people that do this the sooner it will stop. Or rather they move along to the next scam.

    Xmas Saver!
i have also just had another call, i normally just put the phone down but i wanted a bit of fun this time and hoped that they wouldn't call me anymore so i went along with him a little and acted really thick (well i am blonde so why not lol) so because i acted so thick he had to transfer me to another guy who he said would be able to explain it more clearly, so i went along with him again right to the point where he was asking me to write certain letters in the run box i then turned around and said to him "are you having fun?" he replied saying "yes" ok i said well so am i , he replied "are you taking me seriously?" i said "errrr no why should i be?" he said "you should do as your pc is infected" i replied saying "no it's not infected because i have a brand new laptop and i know your just a scam" he replied "you are a liar, biggest liar in the world" i then just ":rotfl::rotfl: lol am i" and then he said "just go away you big liar" and off he went :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Loose all hope at not being called again. I've tried taking the mickey big time ("do your windows open slowly" he said, "don't use them, it's too cold in the UK at the moment" said I). I've tried telling them that they are bunch of crooks and don't bother calling me as I don't fall for their nonsense. He then actually tried to say it was not a scam!

All to no avail as after a pause of a week or two they are back trying it on again. With auto diallers and a staff having no idea what number that they have called, all they have is a name and script on the screen it's inevitable.

The last twist was they were a MicroC**p certified company. So they are no longer actually claiming to be MicroC**p themselves.

I had a phone call from an Indian gentleman (???) called Spencer :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:, from Micro Assist two weeks ago, and kept him hanging around for about half an hour. ...

Why are Microsoft and the various governments not doing anything about these scammers?
Because you are doing quite well on your own?

Well I have just spent a fair amount of time reversing the havoc one of these clowns did to an elderly persons PC when they unwittingly fell for their story and did what they were told. Basically, they had the victim run Ipconfig, got the ip address, took control, disabled Norton and then forced the machine to only boot up in safe mode, claiming that this was proof there was a problem, now please hand over your cash and we will fix. Thankfully the person realised it was a scam and hung up. But of course not knowing what else may have been done I had to run scans, turn off remote assist, reconfigure windows to stop the safe mode and then re-activate Norton. Took a while, but all now ship shape. Anyway just in case it happens to you, this seems to be what they do. Obviously if you use online banking etc, it is probably wise to tell your bank what happened in case they got the details from your PC, also call your email contacts to let them know that if they get emails claiming to be from you asking for help with money as your stuck somewhere then it's a scam, as you address book was copied. (unlikely but just in case.)
My Mind wanders, if found please return.

I avoid this by never actually answering my landline.
Nobody has the number, so i know it's spam if it rings
I do occassionally answer for some fun, but not had these muppets yet
  • Very disappointed - just had a phone call from these twits, well I think it was someone like this but I could not understand a word that a very Indian Duncan said apart from it is in regard to your computer. Unfortunately waiting on a phone call so could not do as I planned and lead him on a while, will have to wait till next time! Strange though, he would not believe that we do not have a computer, he insisted we must have a family computer, so I told him I do not have a family and he kept insisting it was the family computer. Finally put the phone down on him, will have some fun next time though, planning it already!
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
