community interest company any knowledge?

My partner wants to start a community interest company, as i undersatnd it the assets are locked. has anyone else started one, if so do you have any advice please?

Am I right in thinking this is a relatively new thing? I've heard about CICs in relation to charities: at the moment some charities are registered as limited companies even if they're not trading as such, but in the future it seems becoming a CIC may be the way to go.
I found some links by googling Community Interest Company, including one on the businesslink pages. If you haven't yet seen those, that's where I'd start. And here is what I found on the Charity Commission pages, but I've not had time to read up about it at all ...Signature removed for peace of mind0
