Sweet chilli sauce

Options
Anyone got any suggestions what I can add to a sweet chilli sauce to cool it down. I bought a different brand and it is too hot for me but hate the thought of throwing it out. Thanks in advance.

You could add some tomato ketchup thinned with a little water.

sugar counteracts chili heat so I'd make a sugar syrup and dilute the sauce down with that - commercial sweet chilli sauce is basically syrup with chillis in anyway- add some wine vinegar if you think its too sweet

  • Thanks for the advice. Will try both and see how it tastes!
  • I'd try some plain yoghurt or sour cream to make a sort of creamy chilli dip type thing

  • I add mayo to hot sauce to cool it down. you still get the nice chilli flavour but it's much more palatable. It looks a bit curdly when you first mix it up but just keep beating it together and it will smooth out x

Yes, same thing happened to me when I bought an unknown brand from a local asian food store. I used it up quite quickly by adding a dollop of it to gravy, curries, home-made chutneys - in fact anything that I thought needed a bit of pepping-up. I even found that it was a great accompaniment to a cheese sandwich - spread thinly like Marmite!
