Car Insurance Extra Charges

As most insurance companies don't charge extra for a single speeding why not ask them for a break down of their costs. Also, if they have an online quote engine, go and get two quotes, one with the SP50 and one without and see how that comes up."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

What exactly are they going to do about it if you don't pay? They already know you haven't had any claims in that period so they can't say you were a higher risk.
Whether the OP had an accident is immaterial, they were a higher risk and had they declared the information would (According to Zurich) have had to pay more.
Many Insurers will pursue the debt and eventually pass it to a debt collector0 -
I've been with the same insurance company for about 4 years and never claimed. As someone said, if I had claimed they probably would have tried to wriggle out of paying. The policy has just renewed every year and I haven't been fully checking the details (My fault I know). If it comes down to it I'll just pay up, it's my own doing. I didn't want to just roll over and pay then everyone say there was no need. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for all the replies.

If the non disclosure had been discovered as a result of a claim, the Insurer would have worked out whether you had intentionally miss lead them. Assuming you had not they would then redraw the Insurance on the basis they would have had you declared the conviction originally eg collect any extra premiums and / or increased excess. They would then have dealt with the claim.
As Zurich have asked for an extra premium, it would indicate they would have accepted you and would thus have had to deal with any claims subject to the extra premium etc.
Note "Innocent" non disclosure (Which is fairly rare) eg the question you were asked was unclear or not relevant or the salesperson miss lead you are dealt with more leniently.0 -

I have been searching for a thread to have a rant about this, I know this might not be the right place.
No claims - it seems that this is exactly what is says on the tin. But why should we have to pay extra to cover ourselves against other drivers? 23 years driving, my OH has never had an accident and has avoided many that could have been caused by other people. We won't pay to protect our no-claims out of principle, it might sound big headed, but I don't think he'll have an at fault accident whilst he has all his faculties (hopefully a few yrs yet - he's only 44!)0 -
You see what I mean though? Its like buying a losing lottery ticket after the draw has been made.
It's different, insurance is based on "Utmost goodfaith", you tell the Insurer about you, they then agree to pay claims based on this information . If you omit information then the premium they have charged may not be the correct premium.
The OP's risk of a claim was more than someone without a speeding conviction and now days most Insurers charge extra for just one speeding conviction.
Whether the OP had a claim or not, the risk to the Insurer was higher thus the extra premium.
As Mikey mentioned, a call to the Ombudsman will clarify the situation, although bear in mind a lot of the people who answer the calls will side with the caller on the phone. The reality is, the Ombudsman has an incredibly high turnover of staff, so a lot of the front line staff have limited experience.0
