Turkey: Side - suggestions or tips?

Hi, I have just booked to go to Turkey with my OH, at Easter, about 8kms from Side. I have been a few times to the Fethyie area, but Side is new to both of us. It is our first holiday together and I am SOOoooo excited!!!
Any suggestions on things to see or do / places to visit / tips about the local area etc? We got a great AI deal in a new 5* hotel - but the OH would have preferred to go more off the beaten track and see the local culture so I need to show him that we can have both... coz I'm definitely a 5* type of gal
Many thanks x

found this thread whilst searching the forums.
ive found quite a good deal for the summer for 2 weeks all inclusive in Side. would those of you who have been recommend it? what is there to do in the area?
it will be our first trip to turkey - any general advice we will benefit from? (ive just read about the £10 entry tax, that's handy to know before you go

I went to Side a couple of years ago at Easter, you will need some cardis'/fleeces as it was pretty cold in the evening and also during the day, all the brits were in shorts and t-shirts shivering and other nationalities were in jeans and fleeces!
Had a couple of days of sunshine, but be prepared!
Side is quite nice, lots of historyWaddle you do eh?0 -
Went last year in June and took Turkish Lira and everything was shown in Euro's and that is what they wanted. If you like a drink take some out with you also cigs you can get a good deal at the uk airports going out. Most people got enough cigs to bring home with them. When you are coming home don't buy drinks to drink in the aiport they cost an arm and a leg take a drink through with you.0

did you get hassled a lot? that is the image i have got of turkey form hearing other people talking about their experiences - that you will constantly be hassled by 'lookey lookey' poeple trying to sell you things and men who think that if you're from the uk you're easy/a !!!!!!know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0

We went to Side three years ago and had a brilliant holiday. It was our first visit to Turkey...but we will definately go back.
Side has lots of history and a lovely beach. Lots of bars and restaurants to choose from, but probably better suited to a quiet holiday...rather than a rave up.
Check out the local market which is fascinating. I've never seen a market as huge!! You don't really get hassled...or at least we didn't.
We found the Turkish people to be very friendly and helpful and would recommend Side to anyone. When life throws you lemons...put them in a gin and tonic !!0 -

reassuring to know. we are definately not the clubbing types, despite the sterotypes of people our age (20s)

Yes we did get a lot of hassle and it has put us off going to Turkey again. This was the third time in Turkey and it as got worse. The main people in Side are German we heard very litle English. Do try the little bar right next to ruines at the harbour the sunset is wonderful. Don't forget holidays are what you make them.0
