Expected reply from the JC :-

    1. is rude - "well we can't all get along but it's only for a few weeks, sometimes in life we get personality clashes and you have to learn to work with it"
    .
They last for 2 years even if you DO find a job they apparently still hassle you.

so basically they haven't been rude, you're just being very standoffish. Perhaps spend your time with your adviser proactively, and learn that you will always have people you do not get on with, so deal with it. It seem syou have no grounds for any form of complaint, and any request to be moved to another advisor is strictly on a case by case basis. It seems to me you seem to be the one with the attitude problem, if you wanted to get back into work at the earliest opportunity, you would happily endure people like that.

And its his job to get you back to work, regardless of what you see as sarcasm or personal attacks. The advisor is specifically trained to get you back to work, it just seems you're being a tad childish.

I don't think jamesdd is being unreasonable at all.

Three things to take on board.

Firstly, under the Work Program just as with the New Deal and Flex New Deal programs, you are constantly referred to as a 'customer'. Well, the last time I looked customers had rights. Such as the right to a decent level of service and standards and the right to take their custom elsewhere. After all, if I have an issue with Tesco, I can use Morrison's, Waitrose or Lidl. If I have a problem with Dell, I can elect to use HP, Acer or Lenovo. My choice. With welfare to work providers, there is no choice. You are stuck with the provider who the Jobcentre send you to. Usually one of the providers who have managed to win a contract in your particular area. Of course, calling attendees 'customers' is typical of the newspeak so beloved govt and welfare to work provider alike.

Secondly, many welfare to work providers have performed dismally since the days of New Deal. They consistently fail to hit their targets. They also failed to provide even the most basic of facilities at some of their offices. Many expect them to perform EVEN worse under the WP as the targets are even tougher.

Thirdly, many staff members working for welfare to work providers are hardly a credit to their profession. Yes, some do care and do their best in trying circumstances. However, all too many come across as Pauline from the League of Gentlemen.

What would I do? Well, I'd have a word with the person in question. Make it clear you are not too happy with the way they speak to you. If possible, ask another 'customer' who sees her regularly as well. See if their experience matches yours. If so, then it's likely you're onto something.

Make yourself heard, but in a calm, considered and intelligent manner. Just because you're currently jobless does not mean you should be treated in a shabby fashion.

You are a 'customer' after all!

I agree. I was on job seekers for 5 weeks and the first 3 people I saw were perfectly nice human beings.

Then on the last (thank god) time I went there, the woman I saw was so rude and annoying. Every question I asked her she spoke to me like I was a child. The only reason I didnt have a massive rant back was because I was figured she could stop my payment. When I came home I told my DH what I had asked her, and what she had said to me, and he was totally shocked. Thinking back now she was a bit of a Pauline type I suppose!

I decided that if I saw her again, I would point out in a calm way that there was no need to speak to me like that. Just to see what her reaction would be more than anything. Luckily I found a job though and never had to see that silly woman ever again!
