Travel Ins for UK cottage

I need to find some travel insurance to cover a cottage that has been booked in the UK for a group of 12 family members. It is especially important as the booking is in the middle of winter and we are expecting snow (but praying for no problems!) and thus there is a risk that we cant get there.
Looking initially at insurance companies it seems to be for an individual or families - as in 2 adults and 2 children.
What sort of insurance should we be taking out? Just the person who has booked the cottage? Not at all sure what policy we need?
Can anyone on here advise - perhaps someone who has booked group cottages before?

Normally you would take out a separate policy for each couple, family unit living at one address or a single policy for anyone living on their own. It would need to be mentioned that one person who may not be the on the particular policy had booked the cottage, but that the other 11 on the trip had rebated them with their share. If this is not disclosed, should there be a need to claim, it might get a bit complicated.
Whilst there may be group travel policies available, would you be happy answering medical questions for everybody? You might inadvertently not mention something to the Insurers or one of your relatives might not be happy disclosing something personal about them to you.
The reason for all arranging Travel cover is that if say your uncle Fred was taken seriously ill, his wife Aunty Janet might not travel, but there is no reason for the other 10 not to continue the trip. The Insurers are only likely to cover Uncle Fred and Aunty Janet for the relevant amount, not anyone else.
For UK trips, unless you are totally snowed in for many days and cannot make the trip, they might not cover the whole cost of the booking. The Insurers would expect travel by any possible means and the use of the cottage for as many days as possible.
Perhaps the best thing to do, is for you to make a few phone calls for advice on this. Policies do vary, so probably best to hear it from the horses mouth.
Try Direct-travel.co.uk, Columbusdirect.com, world-first.co.ukThe comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
Thanks for your reply.
In our case, the cost isnt being shared and the most likliest reason for not going would be the weather both at the cottage and where we all live. The last 2 years have been very difficult roads wise so we wanted to ensure that we would get some form of refund should accessibilty to the cottage be denied by the snow.
Will have a look at those sites thanks.0 -
I think J L Morris offer UK cancellation insurance that covers 'adverse weather'. Check the policy contitions though as it may specify minimum snowfall etc.0

I would check very carefully that "roads being blocked by snow" would be covered by the policy. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.
We belong to the Earth0
