summer in the alps 18 Aug 07

Hi, I am considering taking my family to a campsite (we stay in mobile home) around Lake Annecy.

Can anyone recommended a good site.

Is it a good place to holiday, we are a family who like lots of things to do and see.

Anyone know what weather is like in August, can I expect some sun?

Thanks

We were in Annecy last year, though in a hotel, and we loved the area. Lots of activities. We did paragliding, walking, cycling, kayaking on the lake, the Forest Adventure course is brilliant, swimming in the lake etc. We also visited Chamonix (1 hour drive) on one of the days to take the kids (13 and 10) up the cable cars but unfortunately we chose the one day that it rained so the views were non existant. The rest of the time it was sunny and warm. We went on the 20th August for one week.

We are going back again and staying at La Serraz campsite where we have booked a mobile home directly with the site. Eurocamp also use the site and it is in their brochure, but they charge twice the price. I do not know what the quality of the campsite is like, so we are taking a bit of a chance, but we only intend using it as a base for sleeping and it has a swimming pool for the kids.

the web site is https://www.campinglaserraz.com but also check http://www.eurocampings.co.uk/en/search-by%3a/camp-sites-with-website/l2-n79.95/ as this give a full list of campsites with websites in the area
  • Many thanks, I am actually looking at La Serraz as well, the mobile vans look really nice, and its very reasonable. Quite close to Annecy.

We have done Dordogne and Loire and Vendee and my husband fancied the Alps, I was a bit concerned if there was much to do for my 4 and 6 yr old, and what the weather would be like.

I fancied Frejus in South of France, so we are not sure at the moment. definately worth booking direct we did that last year and it was less than half the price of Eurocamp. We still visited the Eurocamp tent and borrowed games, and leaflets, the reps quite liked the chat.

Thanks again, if you are ther around 18th may see you there.

    p.s

What was the drive like, did it take you very long

The drive was about 8 hours from Calais to Annecy. We stayed overnight in Folkestone and got an early eurotunnel. The motorways are very easy driving and not congested like the ones in the UK

This year we are leaving in the afternoon getting to Calais about 5.00pm and staying in a hotel in Saint Quentin which is about 2 hours from Calais. That way we will break the journey up, and we don't have to suffer another horrendous B&B stay in Folkestone.

Can't really say about activities for young children but I don't see it as being any different from any other french tourist resort.
  • hi,
we went to annecy 2 years ago and had one of our best holidays..............stayed in talloires and spent the week on or by the lake. i would recommend going further into the alps if you have a second week, we stayed in st gervais near to mont blanc and a great time walking in the mountains, taking cable cars to see glaciers and generally enjoying a small french town.
  • that sounds nice, I'll have a look at that, thanks
