The only two companies I have an issue with are HSBC and Virgin Media.

The first is easy, I don't use the account.

The second, when I did have to ask for technical support, I just got them to send me an engineer as they had no idea what I was saying. How does that save them money?

I'm a Geordie and I worked in call centres for years. I've never had anyone complain they couldnt understand me but I once, rather surprisingly, had an Irish person go off it because they insisted 'they didnt deal with companies who had call centres in India' they were so rude that eventually I lost it and pointed out that my father is in fact Irish and so that makes me half-Irish, I was born and raised in England and that Nottingham, last time I checked, wasnt in India!

Perhaps they had been passed through to you? Surprised their account wasnt suspended tbh.

While i have no objections to speaking to anyone of any nationality in the UK, I also sort of see the logic in the madness. For example, we pay money to Virgin media, they then pay that money out to overseas call centres......do the people in overseas call centres then pay that money to a overseas provider who sources their call centres in the UK ? Hmmm i think not. Effectively its sending money out of the country and not bringing it back in.

That sort of practice is bad for any country's economy.

I do find that overseas call centres struggle with my accent. I've also had some rude, arrogant obnoxious agents to deal with from overseas call centres. But i've also had the same from the UK. Likewise, i've received good customer service from both overseas and UK.

I am not keen on dealing with overseas calling centres especially the BT ones but it is done because the wages and other costs are so much lower that it makes commerical good sense and these days the economics of paying for calls is no longer based on geography.

Ahh the call centre act 2011

That would have been passed about the same time as the white goods act wouldn't it?
If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.

I have been told I should learn to speak English when I speak with a what has been described as either Public school accent by some and an Australian accent by girls I was at school with yet I am of Irish decent born and educated here (apart from 1 yr in Ireland as a teenager)

But hey ho at least I was not using "french" to get my point across as we as the caller who said this to me
