We got our phone bill the other day and were shocked at how much we spent this month! Husband has parents in Spain and and call to them cost £7 our total uk calls cost us around £10 and we don't really use our phone very much. I call my parents and his calls his parents occasioanlly and we tend to use it most during evenings.
I do sometimes use it during the day if I need to phone a company or something but thats only ever for a few minutes at a time.
Just wondered if there were any decent landline only deals around. There seems to be loads of packages but we already have sky and our broadband is free so doesn't seem worth upgrading with them.
Can anyone advise me?

Who is your line rental currently with?
If BT you could add the international freedom at £5 p/m with either Anytime £4.70,Weekend /eve £3.00 or weekend only £0
Sky talk you now have to take Sky rental as well,Talk Unlimited is £5.00 + L/R £12.25 includes UK landline calls and 20 international destinations.
As an alternative IDNet do an Anytime Lite package at £14.29 inc rental giving 5hours calls per month inc international,or 10 hours at £17.35 20 hrs at £20.420 -
It would be helpful if you told us who your current supplier is,and what call bundle you currently have. Then we could point you in the right direction.0

Line Rental is £8.72 + VAT. My calls in last month - £2.30. I have free UK calls 24/7, good discounts for mobile calls and a "Golden destination" which I use to call my mate in Australia. Free!
I also take broadband from them and my total, inclusive bill in September was £26. That included 2 GB excess usage at - £0.46 per GB.
Customer Service is the best I have ever experienced. I took Phone only until my previous ISP contract ran out, then migrated.
Good Luck wit whomever you take!I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

As you have a pc and braodband try using skype.
Even if parents in Spain don't have a pc, calls from your pc to landline in Spain can be as little as 1.6p / min payg or 0.8p / min if you buy a monthly subscription.

+1 for Skype.
Was in Kenya for 3 months and used Skype on my PC/iPhone to a landline in the UK and it cost pennies...0 -

Sorry totally forgot to say we are with BT atm.
Inlaws keep telling us to download skype, just haven't got round to it!Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
well, here is a really quick way to save on calls to spain immediately from your currrent BT phone.
Use http://topupnow.co.uk/index2.php - you call 0911 0331 331 which is a £1.50 premium rate fixed fee call.
This gives you £1.50 topupnow credit.
Now you can call 0808 1700 123 to make a call to spain.
You call will be charged to your topupnow credit - it's a freephone call as far as BT are concerned.
It will cost 5p per call - not 5p per minute. That's 30 calls - of unlimited length - for that £1.50 top up.
You can also join http://18185.co.uk/index2.php to make UK landline calls for 5p per call - that works by monthly bill, not top up.0 -

But what tariff are you on? No one can give proper advice without basic info.
If you can make the effort to install Skype (5 minutes work) then you can eliminate your overseas charges completely. No free lunch, and no free laptop
