Very clever marketing...but is it allowed?

Hi guys,
Not sure where to post this, so thought here was as good a place as any.
Whilst out shopping today, I received in my change a 2p piece that had a sticker on one side. The sticker stated '£46.00 - this is what this would be worth if it was 9ct gold, the name of a pawnbrokers and a freephone number!
This is an extremely clever piece of marketing but are they allowed to do something like this?
Cheers

Exactly! I think it must be illegal otherwise they would all be at it. Unless of course the pawnbroker came up with it first...may have opened a can of worms here!0 -
i don't think there's a law that states "you must not stick advertising stickers on coins"; so i don't think it'll be illegal.0

I would think that if it obscured the Queens head there would be a rule against it.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

No laws as of 2007 but the Mint doesn't like it.
