Moving a hot water tank??

Hi all - my son's room is tiny and it houses the airing cupboard where there is a very large hot water tank. Is it possible to move this into the loft in order that I could use the cupboard as a wardrobe?

If so, does anybody have any idea of a rough cost for that sort of work?

I'd be very grateful for your advice. Thanks.

    It's possible.
How big is the loft hatch?

if it does fit, be sure the tank is very well insulated in the attic (also the pipework) or it will lose a lot of heat in winter a cost more to run. also that the tank is adequately supported and the joists will take the extra weight (assuming you already have a cold tank up there too)

One thing to bear in mind is that the bottom of the cold water tank must be higher than the top of the hot water cylinder.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

if its the old type gravity system then how high is your roof space?
the cold water feed tank/s will have be even higher.

I am not a plumber (and it's not money saving) but if you have a combi bolier, you don't need the H/W tank I believe since hot water is not stored... You could stick the boiler in the loft, subject to site survey.

I hate boilers in lofts, you can't press any buttons without a torch, loft ladder, and then the floor needs boarding out.

Surely it would be cheaper to concentrate on where/what/how the wardrobe could be accommodated elsewhere?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

    Easy fix for the tank

Unless you have a power shower, or other form of pump

Thank you everybody for your replies. There is definitely nowhere else the cupboard can go - the room is so tiny!

I've looked at that combi-tank so will get a plumber out to have a look and see if that's possible.

Very grateful for the replies, thank you :)

Oh, meant to say, I've looked into the combi boiler option but because there are 5 of us in the house it isn't recommended, plus it's VERY expensive and I can't stretch to that at the moment :(

I've just had a condensing system boiler installed - tank and boiler moved to loft. All seems fine to me.
