It sound to me like there was some mess up with the job centre getting the JSA paid when you were job hunting.

Am right in thinking you are no longer job seeking as you have a full time phd to do, and this takes you far and wide in your car?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • You are correct on all accounts lynzpower. I also need to get to devon in the car.
I will be fine once I receive my next payment at Christmas, but at the moment things are very tight. I think it will be best for me to ring the council and see what they say. I posted mainly out of desperation, but my head is clearer now.

Thanks everybody for all your help so far.

Is it completely out of the question for you to work in a bar a couple of nights per week etc?

The difficulty will of course be that you shouldn't be entitled ( as far as Im aware) to any kind of LHA as you have housing elsewhere....

I think its fair to say that its likely to be tricky as you have had money, plus you have enough to live on, but you have chosen to pour the money into buying a house instead of living on it....

  • Thanks Guys,

Part time work is pretty much out of the question in final year. I will often work until 8pm or later. I have considered this.

I think the main question is that how comes you put down a deposit for a house when you are struggling for income? Have you now bought it and are you living in it? are you living alone?

How much of your savings did you put into the house deposit?

He means rent deposit, not mortgage/house purchase deposit.

I don't think he does. He posted

"I bought the house in Devon with my GF. I rent in Bristol. I used ~85% of savings on house. "
