Basically the title says it all!
I bought a Bridesmaids dress on eBay at the end of August, never received it, opened a dispute on Paypal and now the seller's put in a random number where the track and trace number would go (it wasn't sent recorded). Do Paypal check this up to see if it's a real number? It's just 7 digits, nothing like an actual Tracking number. I can't see anything where I can point this out. I'm worried that they'll see that the sellers put in a number and not refund me?

If so, note the number of the case and go to 'contact eBay' in your eBay page, phone them and make sure you actually give them the false tracking number too.0 -
There is the possibility that it's an honest mistake from the seller.
They may well have obtained a certificate of posting and a receipt from the Post office, and it might be the receipt number that they have entered.
If it is a long term ebay seller then this is unlikely to be the case but with a newbie, who knows?
Irrespective of the reason, Paypal should check up on it and see that it's not a valid tracking number.0 -
I onyl know what happens from a paypal point of view and in that instance paypal automatically find for the buyer if a seller provides a dodgy tracking number.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. eBay is not automatic, but same outcome for a false tracking number.
Just takes longer, I believe.0 -
This happened to me with a seller entering a incorrect tracking number (not even the correct format). This was in response to a dispute I raised in Paypal
I range paypal and the guy I spoke to recognised that the number was incorrect and immediately refunded me. I would suggest that the OP rings paypal to make sure that they find in your favour rather than siting back & hoping that it turns out okay0 -
if in doubt always phone them, 020 8605 3000 then press 10

Thanks for all the advice guys
The seller has 500+ feedback and sells quite a lot of stuff so I'm finding it hard to believe that it's an accident.
I'm going to give Paypal a call in the morning and see what they say about it, I waited ages for the dress and now I feel like I've been waiting ages for a refund!
Again, thanks for all the advice.•¨¨*:•..•
