Good deal if you want to surf the web, but don't expect much else. The 1Gb of RAM is an issue as Window 7 + Anti Virus will consume nearly 1Gb alone, which doesn't leave much for anything else. If you buy one, go to Crucial.com/uk and order a memory upgrade.

Whilst I hate to poo poo bargain posts I would have to agree, this will definitely need at least another 1gb RAM in it. But if you are going to do that, why not pay £35 extra and get one with 2gb already installed plus a bigger HDD?

Toshiba are terrible laptops, and this one is pretty useless for anything beyond websurfing. If websurfing is all you want to do, you could get a better lappy for cheaper elsewhere.

    WHAT???

Whilst 1GB is sub-optimal Windows 7 and AV does NOT consume 1GB RAM. AV realtime scanner should be using less than 100MB at any one time, as Windows 7 will actively fill RAM it always looks like your system is using most of it it's just managing it cleverly (or not) but it's not as bad as you're making out.

My wife runs an HP 2133 netbook with 1GB RAM and a manky Via CPU and that chugs along quite happily and THAT is only suitable for surfing/office on but that's purely down to the processor.

Anyway my point being 1GB RAM isn't a killer what is a killer IMHO is the HP deal I posted the other day where you can get a brand new 620 for a shade under £200 if you trade in an old PC/laptop and claim the cashback which would get you 4GB RAM and 500GB HD etc.

Not a great deal but not bad.

I'd rather have the Celeron CPU than that V140 although that's not really saying much

but it's not as bad as you're making out.

True, not that bad, but nobody in their right mind would recommend a laptop with only 1Gb RAM when it runs Windows 7. Espeically when it's running an awful Celeron Processor!

The AV may well run along doing nothing at a low rate of burn on the memory, but you run a scan and see what happens then.

I still stand by my quote, if you are buying a laptop (even paying £200) you should ensure it's future proofed and buy something that will not cause issues in 2 years time.
