Quite a few Germans feel the same.

The amount that Slovakia is being asked to contribute is equivalent to their annual GDP. A slightly different situation.

Average Civil service pension in Greece is around 1200 Euros a month. In Slovakia 300 Euros.

How would you feel in that situation?

Slovakia voted against, so what happens now. Do they keep getting asked to vote again until they give the right answer the EU wants, just like Ireland?

Appears the Government has toppled in the process, as vote was regarded as a matter of confidence. So elections will have to be held. Vote may well subsequently be passed, However there may be conditions attached.

At long last someone has stood up, made a stand and said what many feel.

Interesting. Didn't Slovenia's government topple, or at very least wobble under a similar vote of confidence over Euro bailouts and Greek profligacy? There are a lot of these smaller, less wealthy but nevertheless still Eurozone states and there's a potential for them to bloc together to demand change if they can get their act together. I have an Estonian friend, its fair to say she's not wringing her hands with glee at the prospect of a bailout either. She says that many Estonians are already having to work two jobs to stay aftloat in the higher cost world that is the Eurozone, the thought of working three to help Greece is a non-starter.

Now one country has made a stand, is it now possible that other countries will start to say No to these bailouts?

The Slovakia PM was making a real emotional plead that they need to be part of Europe and agree with these plans. Is that not the case with many other countries? The politicians are pushing things ahead saying that the Europe project can't be allowed to fail and in the process often ignoring what their own populations think. Now one country has stood up and gone against the political wish will others feel they can do the same?

    No, they already voted yes.
  • Surely the obvious solution is for the Germans to lend the money to the Slovakians to lend to Greece?

They have said yes to the last question they were asked which dates back to July but that is already acknowledged as being out of date and not enough in money terms. In the near future it's all going to start again and they will all be asked to vote on more funds and other measures to help the crisis. Even the Angela Merkel was warned by the other government parties that she could not rely on their unconditional support in future votes. Maybe some of the smaller countries will start to say enough is enough and do what Slovakia has done?

It looks like they will leverage the money, in which case it's already July bailout X10 or X100 without the need for extra votes. Slovakia are having their time in the sun but ultimately they have already stated that they will vote yes on a second vote.
