Home Contents Insurance

We live in a council flat and cant get home contents insurance because we have the old metal framed windows and council will not replace with new windows with the key locking system.
We wondered if anyone out there knows any companies that will insure with the old windows?
I tried the compare sites and all, same thing comes up.

I understood that the usual terminology went along the lines of "accessible windows". I know I argued that first floor windows could hardly be described as accessible.
You may also find your final exit door fails some tests due to lack of 5 lever or better locking mechanism.
I would ask the council who their buildings insurers are as I often find it better to have the two combined, avoiding issues over who covers what on some claims etc.0 -
Our previous home was all double glazed with locking windows except for an old single glazed metal framed in the utility room.
We bought a locking gizmo that went through one of the holes in the opening arm that was up to BS3621 (or whatever the number is). Kept the key out of the lock - and that was accepted by insurers.
There are locks that should meet the requirements, but due to number of openings in an old metal framed window you may have to buy 2 for each window.0 -

If you use a search engine website and answer 'no' to
Are there locks on accessible windows in the property
it provides quotes.
Is it definitely just locks are preventing you getting quotes?
Anyway, as has been said above, it is possible to get window locks for metal frames.0 -
One company now said cause its a high risk post code on top with the windows and not alarmed they didnt wanna know, but their loss, I found two others that seem to be interested at low cost rates and the access is not to bad either.0
