It`s Freezing

Unlike the weather, my comp keeps freezing and doing quite unexpected things . After a reinstallation of XP , the problem seems to be still happening . For example , it will boot up to the user page . I click on my icon and it is hit or miss wether it will open to my desk top . No recent hardware has been added . Thanks in expectation .

Oh but it could be like the weather, ie it's too hot, have you checked the fans are running, the case is not furred up inside etc..

Check the video card drivers

Also run memtest overnight, either of the top two download links here

If you are happy with opening the computer case, if it has an on off switch on the case, use that and unplug the power lead from the mains

Open the case and check if any components are loose

Check for dust while you are there

Close the case before plugging it in

Firstly thanks to for the replies to my earlier post . memory test fine and a bit of a dust out. OK all is well yet my dvd drives will not autoplay . Tried a ton of fixes but to no avail. Not too bothered if there is another way to play them . Right now, I open up my computer and although the drives are showing the dvds will not load. Oh I am not 100% right right there. I put in my lens cleaner and it auto played but nowt else will. Once again, thanks to you guys that have replied and maybe will reply to this post.

The latest fad with anti virus and some versions of windows is to turn auto run off to prevent possible viruses getting on, Avira does it on mine

If you click start, then computer, do you get anywhere if you right click a drive then click open

Thanks so far. Tried the suggestions but no joy. Now this is strange. Both my lens cleaner and my o2 set up disks are being read by my DVD/CD drive but nothing is happening when I insert any other disk.

Maybe the system thinks it's only a CD drive, so while it can recognise CDs, DVDs are not.
If that is the case, you could effectively re-install the drive by deleting it along with its drivers.
