Wanting to Switch from Barclays to Nationwide

I've been a Nationwide Flexaccount holder for many years and just about still with them as they whittle down the benefits. I thought I would qualify for the 'free' travel insurance as I have my monthly salary paid in direct. However, this was refused on the basis that I also have a joint Flexaccount with my spouse and for me (yes, just me) to qualify, then at least £750 monthly credit had to be applied to BOTH accounts. Other than close the joint account, which would be inconvenient, can't see a way around this!Retired and debt free at last

Surely the joint flex account should provide you both with travel insurance? That's what i'm wanting to find out from the branch, if I am able to 'add on' my husband for a small fee (as the acct is only in my name).I've been a Nationwide Flexaccount holder for many years and just about still with them as they whittle down the benefits. I've added my wife/husband to my account are they covered by the insurance now?
If you add someone to your account they will benefit from the free travel cover subject to the age restrictions. For more information, view details of the eligibility criteria.0 -
This was the reply from Nationwide: Thank you for your message. The qualifying period was between April and July 2010. You did not receive at least £750 external credits each month on both FlexAccounts, which is why you are ineligible for free travel insurance. Regards.
- So, because I also share a joint account, I do not qualify for free travel insurance despite qualifying with my personal Flexaccount. Looks like they've recruited some staff from Ryanair!Retired and debt free at last

I don't think I'd recommend the FlexAccount these days - customer service has been above average (although when I recently wanted to close a joint FlexAccount I had to go to a branch to find someone who knew what they were doing, as the customer service line was giving me bad advice) but the FlexAccount is really quite lacklustre now, and the low limit on Faster Payments has been an issue for me.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon

I have to echo this. The account is not what it was. It's pretty inoffensive as Current A/C's go but they've got rid of its USP's like free debit card withdrawl abroad, decent interest rates etc.0
