What is an Annex?

Hello

I'm looking at rental properties at the moment and have come across a 2bed 2recep annex. Can someone please advise what this is? It looks like a normal house to me!! It does say on the ad that this annex is set in the grounds where the landlord lives. I assume it means the landlord has 2houses on the same land and is renting one out?

If it is in the same grounds, does this usually mean council tax is included? It doesn't say so.

Oh, one last question please. Is there a website where I can look at average rental prices for a particular area? It's just that I've also looked at a 3bed bungalow which is one for 1100/mth. Our budget is 1000/mth and the property doesn't offer white goods. Down another road not 3mins away was a 3bed house with white goods that was on the market for 995/mth. Unfortunately when I enquired about this one, it had already been taken!!

Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
A annex or 'granny annex' as they're often known, is a separate, smaller self contained place for someone to live and is joined onto the main house, or in the grounds of the main house. I think it's for the staff (for rich people!), members of the family etc or to rent out, like you've suggested.

I don't know if there's a website telling you the average rental price, but have a look on https://www.rightmove.co.uk and you can see all of the places available to rent in a particular area.
