Glasgow Airport Parking

I posted this in the Parking thread but I don't think those dedicated threads get as many views as the main board so I've reposted here as I still really need advice soonish.

Can the Board Guides please leave at least for a short while in the hope of getting some replies here, before moving/deleting?

Aaaarrrgghhhh! I'm pulling what's left of the hair on my almost bald head out with indecision.

Please advise if you can. My wife saw a Watchdog program about airport parking (can't remember where) and how they drive your car away from the carpark you think your car is going to be parked in, and park it in overflow carparks which are little more than wasteland with a fence. Many people got their cars back damaged or filthy.

Needless to say this concerned her and now we need to book parking for our car at Glasgow airport for 2 weeks, we have no idea who is 'safe' to opt for. I'm more concerned with our car being looked after than I am about cost. We have Tesco points that we can exchange for PurpleParking vouchers which will mean our parking will effectively be free (kindof, lol), but we have no idea if they are a decent company.

I also got quotes from all the companies that got thrown up when I searched for 'Glasgow Airport Parking' and the quotes were all fairly similar.

The other option is to stay at the Travelodge at Glasgow Airport the night before we fly out, and you can leave your car there for £3 per day but I'm assuming it's just in their carpark and not a secure facility.

Please can anyone who has needed to park at Glasgow Airport advise on who is best to deal with and save my few remaining strands of hair?

I have left my car at parking in Glasgow several times and never had a problem. I am just not sure the names of the companies... will have a search now and see if I can find them.

I remember one being fairly close and the other I recall was much further out. I was unaware of the problems watchdog have highlighted though, but I guess that could happen anywhere? (without our knowledge, in future check milage when we leave it)
  • We've parked at Glasgow Airport a few times and have used a few different ones. One I remember being really good was the Flying Scotsman. When we flew out from there in October we decided to use the new one - think it's just called Abbotsinch Parking and it was a nightmare. Despite phoning when we arrived in at 2.00 in the morning we had to phone again at nearly 3 o' clock as they'd not arrived. We weren't the only ones as there was also a couple who'd got there a few minutes in front of us. The first bus had driven away just as the couple approached the stop so the driver knew there was people waiting. They phoned several times after this but couldn't get through. When I eventually spoke to someone he was really rude. The driver was worse when he arrived. Some system they must have of checking who's arrived back etc. To top it all they spent ages trying to find the keys from the other couple's car as they'd lost them. I would never ever use them again. It spoilt the end of a great holiday and the fact that we were still in Glasgow 1-1/2 hours after we should have been on our way up the road didn't help and especially when dh ended up getting flashed by a speed camera on the outskirts of the city. We could have saved a fortune by booking a night in the travel lodge!!!!!
    If I had known then what I know now . . .

Thanks for replies. I will make sure Abbotsinch are off my list Highlandlass, thank you. I don't think I've come across the Flying Scotsman, I'll search for them.

Good idea about taking note of your mileage, alba.

Anyone else got any suggestions/advice please?

The Normandy Hotel & The Erskine Bridge Hotel were doing a one night stay with dinner and free parking for two weeks for £69.50-dont know if the offer is still available. We used it in November with no problem-the car was exactly where I left it.

I've used the airports' long term car park - you can get the link from the airport website - https://www.baa.com and click on glasgow airport and then the parking link. It is sited at the end of the runway basically, a couple of minutes from the terminal building by transfer bus. You park your car yourself and keep the keys. Best to book in advance though. Buses to and from the terminal building are very frequent. Just slightly more expensive than off site car parks - but I like to keep my car keys. Got a bit of a girl racer car - sad really - and don't like to think of any wee neds racing around Paisley for a fortnight while I'm away!!! (Only kidding!)
