Indicator Repeater Question

Hey everyone.

Our left indicator repeater has always been a bit loose but the other day we were driving on a narrow road and a HGV was coming in the opposite direction.
We had no choice but to reverse and because the road was so narrow the left side of our car hit the railiings on our side of the road - and you've guessed it, the oval indication plastic bit has come off. Now, before it was being held in by either a wire or a plastic bit that it was attached to but now there is nothing there. It's like that bit came off when we scraped the railings too.

Reading on the web, apparently the indicator plastic bit attaches to some wiring but I can't see any wires at all.:o

Is it possible that the wire has come out too? Surely we would have noticed?

How easy is it to replace the indicator repeater? What happens if the wire has come off?

I know it sounds like a stupid question but I don't know anything about cars. :o

The wiring and possibly the bulb holder have disappeared into the car wing, so will have to be fished out, what sort of car is it?

The bulb holder is usually a bayonet fit into the plastic housing which clips into the bodywork.

Try removing the one on the opposite side to see how it works, push the cover either towards the front or back of the car and pull to release.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

    Thanks.

    It's a Golf GTI 16v mk3.

I actually think we have a Haynes manual for it somewhere so will try and look for that too.

If you indicate left, does the ticking moise sound the same as if you indicate right? If so the repeater lamp is probably ok and has dropped inside the wing as Penryn stated. Have a look inside the hole with the indicator on and you shoulkd be able to see the light flashing. Usually if an indicator lamp has blown, or been disconnected the tick tock sound becomes faster, not sure if this applies to repater lamps but would have thought so.
