PCOS? and fertility?

I was 19 when I was diagnosed with PCOS - came off the pill, weight piled on, skin degenerated and hair grew all over the place. OH and I wanted children and started TTC when I was around 28, son was born when I was 32 after treatment with clomiphene (aka Clomid). We started trying again when son was around 1 1/2, had clomiphene again, metformin, discussed ovarian drilling, etc but in the end decided we would stop and be happy with the one we had. Daughter was born when I was 40. I have heard it say that women with PCOS tend to have better fertility later (not sure though if this has been scientifically proven though).
If you want to talk to other women with PCOS try the Verity forum, Verity is a charity organisation and a great resource about PCOS and there is a dedicated site on the forum for women who are trying to conceive or thinking about it. There is also an area for women like me who are the wrong side of 40!

Good luck with the future and don't give up hope, there are a lot of women with PCOS and a lot of us achieve our dream of becoming a mother, it sometimes takes a bit longer and is a struggle.0 -
aww jellybean, just seen your post and even though i myself never had any problems concieving, i know what you are going through, as my Son and his Wife have been through this, and it is a really cruel thing for anyone to have to go through, especially as a Mother, as you feel really helpless, My Son cried when he told us they where going for fertility treatment, as at that time you can't believe that you will ever have a child, but i am so happy that having clomid, that my Daughter in law concieved, and we now have a 8 month old Grandson, and i can't describe the joy that he has brought us all, i hope that eventually you will be able to announce the same thing, please don't give up, thinking of you, and anyone else that is put through this stess.0

I dont post hear very oftern but wanted to reply to you.
I was diagosed with PCOS in Aug 2009 I had no symptoms other than irrigula painfull periods. it was only after try for a baby that we started looking into why is wasnt happening for us.
we were then refered to a fertilty specialist. were then given clomid to get me ovulating. I had my first ever positive pregnancy test (had many negative) after the 2nd cycle (feb 2010)
I now have 14 month old twin boys.
PCOS can make it very hard to concieve but some people have no problems at all. I charted my ovulations to keep track of everything and this really helped. if you are over weight yu need to lose weight asap as this makes a huge diffrence to fertility esp with PCOS.
now debt free & working on savings

I have PCOS and Insulin Resistance (many woman with PCOS have Insulin Resistance), PCOS caused trouble concieving until I had lost some weight, then when I concieved the Insulin Resistance caused 4 first trimester miscarriages.
I reversed both conditions using a Low GI Diet (which controls the Insulin Resistance, treating this caused a sudden and huge weight loss which kick started my ovulation and is controlling my PCOS). Most diets do not help with weight loss if you have PCOS, and low carb can work, but isn't safe to continue during pregnancy.
My Dr told me Low GI is more effective then drug treatments. Within 8 weeks of starting the diet I concieved and I am due in 2 weeks.
I wish you and your Husband all the best in trying to concieve. I know how heartbreaking it all can be xWe spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. Oh Jellybean I feel your pain.
I have PCOS too and I am at a stage in my life where ALMOST EVERYONE around me is either pregnant or has had a baby. I am married and we are going to start trying next year but who knows if pregnancy will happen and when!
I have to spend Christmas day with his pregnant sister and I am dreading it. I have so far managed to avoid pregnant women (except at work) for quite some time. I feel like crying!!!
I think I have pregnant envy....an acquaintance has been with her boyfriend for five minutes and is already pregnant and enjoys sharing her symptoms on Facebook on a daily basis. I almost feel like she doesn't deserve it and then that makes me feel like a bad person!
Sorry for ranting, but I wanted to let you know that you are not alone!0 -

I will have to look into the GI Diet. My Dad does it as he has diabetes. I don't struggle with my weight per se, luckily, as I know so many with PCOS do. I am tall and a size 10-12 but could lose a stone-ish.0 -
Gleeful,
When I was going through my miscarriages I had a friend who complained about her pregnancy constantly... then when her baby was born she complained constantly again. Some people don't appreciate how lucky they are.
I wish people would consider who reads what they put on Facebook. We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -

I recommend 'Collins Gem: GI' book, it shows you which types of food are better then others. Ie. Granary over white bread.
It helps you make small changes, which add up.
Insulin Resistance is a pre-diabetic condition, I was told i was years away from being type 2 diabetic. We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. Not sure she is mother material...but that's another story.
Sorry that your friend was not thoughtful, some friend she is!0 -
I could never tolerate any metformin or anything. The only thing that worked to me was to lose weight, a little goes a long way. I'm now 9 months pregnant
