Which motor insurance companies do 6 month polcies?
Had the car off road for the summer and used my bike/feet instead and saved a fortune in petrol money.
My insurance is due next month, I was wondering which companies do six month policies.
I'd like to do this without losining my no claims bonus if possible.
Any help much appreciated.

Taking a policy out for less than a year will not add to your no claims discount. If you let two years lapse without taking out another policy for a full year, you'll lose the current NCD as well. Companies are geared up for annual policies, might be better to go to a broker for a shorter period.
You can always take out an annual policy and pay monthly but cancel it after 6 months, but check what their cancellation terms are - and it won't help with earning any NCD.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. But be aware its not a proper NCD - other insurers probably won't accept it. Having said that not sure how they'd know if you just got a bit of paper saying X years NCD to give to the next insurer unless you had more NCD than years since you were 17 or something.

Surely if I go to an insurer with 5 years NC and I stay for 6 months I will leave with 5 years NC intact from the date I left. I could keep doing this as long as I wanted to and still have 5 years at the end of it. You don't have to complete a full year for the insurance company to issue you a NC letter. I had a letter issued for a policy which I had left early (3 months)0 -
OP,
It's going to be a lot of legwork, but if you can scour around all insurance policies for cancellation terms after 6 months or whatever you may find one which is favourable.0 -
Probably cheaper to get a 12m policy and cancel after 6 months, Because charges vary you need to ask
this question before you cancel. If you cancel in 6 months what is the cost/charges.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
