Is my new gas meter faulty?

In June EON arranged to install a new Gas Meter - because my old one had a "problem" which was never really made clear.
Since then my Gas usage has been about double the normal Summer usage. For the previous 3 years, my gas usage has been less than 10 units/month of whatever the meters count.
This summer (July, August and September) the "count" is averaging over 21/month.
We have no new appliances or changes in heating / cooking / hot water - the heating is turned off about May / June and goes back on at the end of October - every year.
Has anyone had any similar problems? Other than EON is there a way to get the meter checked independently?
I'm guessing they'll just say the old water can't have been working properly and this is normal.
Basically, the gas is for a hob (oven is electric) and hot water for the shower / bath. We use a dishwasher which is cold feed as is the washing machine.
All comments / thoughts / idea's welcome.

Both meters were difital, so I assume they were metric. But the old one was in when we moved in in 1988 - does that help?0

As above (post 2).
Also check any bill you've had since the change, as it should indicate if the readings have been taken as hundreds of cubic feet or cubic metres. Not that the bill should be assumed to be correct, but it should agree with whatever units it says on the front of your meter.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Thanks both.
Yes. I can see now. The previous meter was converted into cubic meters before working out the KWH. The new one is measured in Cubic meters.
So actually, my usage has gone down.0
