Hi

Help from the talktalk representative please could be required!!! I would rather sort this issue out on here instead of go through the stress of ringing talktalk, plus others get to benefit from the results.

The value line rental from talktalk. I understand that if you pay the £114 for value line rental you pay for a years line rental, but we (the customers) pay for line rental in monthly advances. For example my bill dated 17th September included charges for:-
- 18th August to 17th September in the other charges (ie 0845's)
- 18th September to 17th October in my esstentials package and line rental (advance charges)

So with this in mind if I pay the £114 for the annual line rental today then I am paying for line rental twice from today up to the 17th of october as I have already paid for line rental up to 17th october.

So I (and many others) are we best to wait until the end of our billing month to pay for annual line rental as to not have to pay twice for line rental?

there is nothing in the details about this, for example, nothing saying that the value line rental will apply from your next billing cycle and so last longer. For example if I pay today it should become active from 18th October and then up to for renewable next year from 18th of october.

Also I wonder how many people will pay annually and then the line rental cost still apear on their next months bill. Bring it on!!!!

I would switch telephone company if I was you. TalkTalk have got their heads in the clouds. I am being moved from Pipex to TalkTalk in November and when I saw how much dearer they were going to be I immediately went through the switching home telephones site on here to get away from them.

  • I paid for mine earlier this afternoon. Previous line rental bill was to 7th October. Just been back to site to check and it states "Effective date 8th October 2011, End date 7th October 2012".

    Go for it! :)

Same as Buddy - VLR starts the day after the prepaid monthly line rental expires - in my case on 25th October.

I logged in to my talktalk account yesterday and purchased this. Upon filling in creditcard details and submitting the payment for the 12 month value line rental a message popped up stating "application error" I checked my creditcard online account and the money had been taken. My talktalk online account states nowhere that I have purchased and now have value line rental and it even has the option to purchase it still.
I can see where this might be going....£114 taken in advance and still take monthly line rental - this better not be the case!!!!!!!!

normaly if you want to pay in advance and have already paid a quarter , (bt) refund the quarter line rental.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Hi, I normally pay every month by direct debit and my landline is paid until 24 October 2011. I also have essential package £6.50 a month. If I go for this VLR and pay £114 now from what date this is going to be valid? From 25 October 2011? I dont want to pay twice for October.

    Your advice will be appreciated.

    hi lkmc01,

As correctly advise form other members the effective date for the VLR would be from your next billing period, as you correctly stated line rental is paid in advance so the VLR commences after your current prepaid LR period expires.

If you visit the TalkTalk Members Forum there is a Sticky post in the Customer Services and Billing section regarding VLR and various questions we have been posed are addressed in this post.

Cane - If you join the Members Forum we can check the discount is applied to your account for you. As this would be from the next billing period I would expect My Account to update the info to reflect this once your next bill is produced and the VLR is effective, as per any other mid month payments made to TalkTalk.

Oki - As confirmed the VLR would become effective at your next billing period. Ther wont be an overlap or duplicate payment for the same periods you have already paid.

    Regards

Thank you for your information. My landline is paid until 24 October. Will my VLR be valid from 25 October 2011 to 24 October 2011? Can I still keep my 'old original Essentials package' with free local (within a radius) daytime calls? Will it be affected if I go for VLR?
My bill is normally calculating on 25 of month. Does it mean I have to sign up before 25 October when they will be calculating my November bill?
    Thanks in advance.

Having just gone onto the VLR myself and asked all the same questions as you on their forum here is my reply.

You log into your account, click on billing then click on VLR which will let you "buy now" using a credit/debit card, making a one off payment of £114.
Your line rental will run (in your case) from 25/10/11 to 24/10/12.

NO OTHER items in your essentials package will be affected by going for VLR.
You will need to sign up for VLR about a week before your billing date to ensure time for everything to go through.
By going for VLR means you start a new 12 month contract.
