Large Gas 'Catch Up' Bill

Thanks.
The key I need is a circle with a line coming through it.
They are coming out in November to look as I got a bit stroppy as I want to get this sorted.:beer:0 -

A "double barb" key then. There must have been a breakdown in communication. Any Southern Electric "engineer" would have known that - and had one in their tool-box.
Indeed any "competent" meter-reader would have "acquired" one in the course of their work.0 -
Isn't it amazing that a forum poster knew straight away yet the Southern Electric people haven't been able to identify it despite putting the supply on and being able to read the meter 3 yrs ago.:beer:0

Actually having looked on google its not quite the same.
Similar but there is a solid line running through the circle rather than an ' open' circle.:beer:0 -

OK, will look for that. Sounds easier than an "open circle" type to defeat with a pair of pliers (or a screwdriver). A Southern Electric engineer would not be as easily defeated as the "useless" meter reader(s), who's job it is to read meters but failed.0 -
Hi kgilbert - Apologies for late entry to this debate, but hope you are still following your thread.
This demand for repayment of a £1442 debt that has built up on Estimated bills issued to a 1 bed flat over 3 years, looks a bit odd
.
It roughly works out to 9600 Kwh for each of the 3 years, which is on top of the estimated Kwh use on the bills SE issued, which you have been paying
Whilst due to build quality, insulation and lifestyle, there are huge differences in Power/Gas consumptions between any given 1 bed flat and another, some will run very comfortably on just 9600kwh a year.
If you catch this please post what you have been paying that is in addition to the £1442 demand, and if you know it, your annual consumption in Kwh - SE will tell you this if you ask
Thanks dogshome,
I've been paying the bills as standard, at about £120 per quarter I guess. But I'll definitely ask SE my consumption in Kwh.0 -
Hi kgilbert - Post your annual Gas Kwh when you get them because the £120 you have paid Qtly over 3 years, adds up to £1,440
The back-payment demand for a further £1442 brings the total over 3 years up to £2,882, which buys roughly 57,640 kwh of gas - 19,213 Kwh a year - which is enough for a family living in a 3 bedroomed house
Are your bills based on the correct meter?
Check that the number on the meter is the same as the one listed on your Bills.
Are you being billed for the right type of meter?
The front of the meter will be marked m3 if it is a Metric model, or ft3 if it's Imperial
On one of your bills, divide the Meter Units used in the number of Kwh charged - if the answer is appx. 11.2 you are being billed for a Metric meter - If the answer is appx. 31.5 you are being billed for an Imperial meter
If the meter type identity doesn't match the billing method, get onto SE immediately and post here0
