I would find it useful to send texts (preferably free) to various mobile phones from my pc rather than from my mobile. Can anyone recommend any suitable software?

One option
http://www.cbfsms.com/
You may get a message saying theservice is unavailable for a number of minutes but usually works well if you do not try to send too many at once
Others here

Have you tried using your mobile phone providers website?
With O2 you can log into your account and send up to 10 free texts from there (I don't know if this is 10 per day/week/month).
Once you've exceeded the free limit then you pay 5p each.0 -

As with the above replies, also depending upon your handset, the PC suite software may allow you to plug the phone into the PC and send texts.0 -
I noticed in passing that Facebook is now doing a free text service. Did not get any details but intend to investigate further when I get home to a proper keyboard! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
