Just been on to the CSA. The on-going case I have for DS is now pointless pursuing any further. It seems they have been doing a trace on the ex who as disappeared off the face of the earth (despite turning up to pick up his son if and when he pleases). He is not claiming any benefits and according to his National Insurance Number he is not employed by anybody? The only othe option he has apart from living off fresh air is that he is Self-Employed but the Inland Revenue has no register off this.

They are asking me is there any way I can find out what he is doing!! I know for a fact that he isn't being subsidised by a partner etc. So any ideas how I could find out?. Not worth the bother to pursue the ex for DD as the CSA cant trace somebody after 6 months there is no hope!

Also the Inland Revenue have not asked for my tax returns yet? When is the deadline for that to be returned? I've got so much on and so many questions!! Grrrr!!

Told you I was in a quandry :)

If you're self employed (rather than a ltd company) then your tax return should be due by 31st January. How long have you been self employed? If it's not been for that long, you will probably have to complete a tax return next year. If in doubt, phone the tax office and ask them - it's a £100 fine otherwise.

I have been self-employed since 2003 so my tax return will be due. Best get on to that first thing tomorrow as i've only just realised that I haven't informed them yet that I have changed my address (eek!).

The CSA have access to credit reference agencies which hold details of any credit applications etc in the last 6 years. Ensure that they have used all their tracing powers - it is new. Contact the Inland Revenue Black Market dept and report him. Do you know his car reg no? When he turns up next time, you may have to follow him or get somebody else to - it sounds drastic but it may work. How old is DD? She may remember some info which you can go on.

When i rang today the girl seemed perplexed about what they can do next so I'll make sure I give them a call back and see what they intend to do next.

Sorry for the confusion Kellogg but its DS's dad that is evading and DD's dad who is saying payment will have to stop while he changes jobs. DS is only three so won't be able to get any info from him. If and when he picks up DS he will either go straight home ( they have his address) or to the pub so that does not tell me anything really!!??

yikes if I reported him what the heck do I say to them (eek!)

thanks for the reply. Your a diamond!!

Where do you live djdido2? I know a very good entertainment agency in Hartlepool that covers the whole North East. We also do DJ'ing and mobile discos, and we get some work from him as well as through our own marketing.

If you are in another area, it might be worth looking at entertaiment agencies near where you live. The pay isn't as good as the agency takes it's cut, but we tend to get short notice bookings so a lower fee is better than no fee if we're not already booked!

Also have a look at www.mobilediscodirectory.co.uk and their forums for ways of promoting your business to bring in more work. It's a nice site and people are friendly.

It's a shame to give up your own business when being in the same game, I know how much work you must have put into it.

    hi becles.

Thanks for the info. I will look into agency work definitely although obviously it is nice to cut out the middle man where poss to avoid paying the commission. I won't be giving up altogether but have realised that now I have a mortgage I cannot rely solely on being self-employed and will have to look for work and use the dj-ing/karaoke etc to subsidise my income.

The tax side of it does my head in big time and I'll have a bit more peace of mind knowing that will be my employers responsibility.

Flippin heck its so hard work being a lone parent!!

but on the plus side you get undivided love and attention from the little ones ;)

I was a single parent but have married again. Having 2 boys, now step-Dad is much more fun than me as he's better at PS2 games so I'm not allowed to play anymore :(:D
